Three ways to play
There's endless fun with three different ways to play Pitjau.
- One on one
- Two on two
- Round the ring
One on One
You can play one on one with each player having up to three hits to get the ball through the ring.
Two on Two
For even more fun, add two more players and see how long the rallies go for! Each team now has up to three hits to get the ball through the ring.
Round the Ring
You can even play with lots of friends by forming a circle around the ring.
Each player has up to three hits to get the ball through the ring. As soon as they have done so they move around the circle and let the next player step up to have their turn.
Start with a friendly round, then once everyone has had a go, let the knockout game begin. If you miss the ring, you're out!
The final two players standing have a duel in a best of three game.
Rules of play
Serving the ball
Players get two attempts to serve correctly. If the ball hits the ring and passes through it is a fault serve.
The ball is to be hit once only (you can't hit it up to yourself and then serve it).
The server must be at least 1 metre from the ring.
Three hits max
When returning the ball through the ring, it can only be hit a maximum of three times. It can be hit with any part of the body. If the ball comes quickly through the ring and hits a receiving player unintentionally, that touch is counted as the first hit!
Blocking a shot
The team in defense can't put their hands up next to the ring to block the ball from coming through. This applies for the serve and during the rally.
Touching the ring
Players need to avoid touching the ring during gameplay. If a player touches any part of the ring or stand during the point their opponent wins the point!
Rebound off the ring
If the ball hits the ring and rebounds back, the team who hit the ball has three new hits to try again. But this can only happen once in a possession! If it hits the ring and rebounds on the second attempt the point is lost.
Spiking through the ring
To spike the ball down through the ring you must be at least 1 metre away from the ring.
If you are closer than 1 metre, you can still hit the ball through but you just can't hit the ball in a downward trajectory.
Intereference with objects
If the ball hits a wall or bounces off an object at any point, just keep playing!
